Rebecca Plevel

Professor Rebecca Plevel, citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, is a Research Librarian at the Westminster Law Library. Prior to joining DU, she was a Reference Librarian for the University of South Carolina, Rice School of Law Library, and taught legal research in the 1L Legal Research, Analysis & Writing program. While attending library school, she was a Library Fellow with the University of Arizona, Cracchiolo Law Library. Her scholarly interests include Tribal Law, Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Indigenous Data governance, access to information, access to justice, and legal research pedagogy.

Before becoming a law librarian, Professor Plevel practiced law in Arizona for 30 years; including as a deputy county attorney in Coconino and Maricopa counties, as a tribal prosecutor for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, Ak Chin Indian Community, the Hopi Tribe, and the Gila River Indian Community, as an Assistant General Counsel for the White Mountain Apache Tribe and the Hopi Tribe, as well as contracting for several other Tribes in Arizona. She was also in private solo practice for about 6 years. She served as a judge pro tem for the Flagstaff City Court and the Coconino County justice courts and continues to serve as a justice pro tem for the Pascua Yaqui Court of Appeals.
