Rebecca Plevel

Professor Rebecca “Becky” Plevel (Mvskoke) is a Research Librarian at the DU Sturm College of Law Westminster Law Library and an Assistant Professor in University Libraries. Prior to joining DU, she was a Reference Librarian for the University of South Carolina, Rice School of Law Library, where she taught legal research in the 1L Legal Research, Analysis & Writing program. While attaining her master’s degree in library and information science at the University of Arizona, she was a Library Fellow for the Daniel E. Cracchiolo Law Library, James E. Rogers College of Law.

Before becoming a law librarian, Professor Plevel practiced law in Arizona for 30 years; including as a deputy county attorney in Coconino and Maricopa counties, a tribal prosecutor for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, Ak-Chin Indian Community, Hopi Tribe, and Gila River Indian Community, an Assistant General Counsel for the White Mountain Apache Tribe and the Hopi Tribe, and provided contract legal services for several other Tribes in Arizona. Her last almost-decade of practice was in private solo practice in Flagstaff, AZ. She served as a judge pro tem for the Flagstaff City Court and the Coconino County justice courts, and she continues to serve as a Justice for the Pascua Yaqui Court of Appeals.

Professor Plevel’s scholarly interests include Tribal Law, Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Indigenous Data governance, access to information, access to justice, and legal research pedagogy.
