The Student Law Office welcomes Visiting Assistant Professor Amanda Savage, who will be teaching the Criminal Defense Clinic (CDC) starting in Spring 2025. Professor Savage joins us from a career as an Assistant Public Defender with the Maryland Office of the Public Defender in Baltimore City and the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender in Essex County (Newark). Savage has experience handling criminal cases at the trial level at every point from start to finish and has represented people charged with all levels of felonies from minor drug possession to murder.

Starting in January of 2025, the Criminal Defense Clinic will be focusing significantly on representing children in municipal courts. With Denver as the only exception, children charged in municipal courts in Colorado are left to represent themselves if they cannot afford private counsel. CDC students will step in to help defend and uphold children’s constitutional rights, in an effort to disrupt this first step of the school-to-prison pipeline.
