Professional Biography
Tanya Bartholomew has taught legal research, writing, analysis, and appellate advocacy for more than 20 years. She also teaches in the Master of Science in Legal Administration program and was recently voted “Most Engaging Professor.” Prior to joining the faculty of the University of Denver’s (“DU”) Sturm College of Law in 2002, Tanya taught at Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa. At Drake, Tanya served as the Associate Director of the Legislative Practice program, a certificate program for students interested in legal careers involving public policy, the legislative process, and politics. At DU, Tanya continues to mentor law students interested in political careers.
Tanya teaches and consults on a host of writing and appellate advocacy topics. She has presented for the Colorado Bar Association, several law firms and government agencies, and various judicial groups. Before finding her passion in teaching, Tanya clerked for two judges serving on the Iowa Court of Appeals, including the Honorable Mark Cady, now the Chief Judge of the Iowa Supreme Court. Prior to commencing her law school teaching career, Tanya also practiced as an appellate lawyer.
Tanya is deeply committed to integrating the awareness and development of professional identity into the first-year curriculum and her recent sabbatical project focused on creating specific assignments and activities designed to foster such awareness and development. In addition, Tanya currently occupies the leadership role in the Lawyering Process (“LP”) Teaching Group, which promotes the development of strong teaching skills, the exploration of new and innovative teaching methods, and the integration of professional identity in the LP curriculum.
