Professional Biography
Brad Cummings is the Director of the Veterans Advocacy Project (VAP), a paired externship with the Rocky Mountain Veterans Advocacy Project (RMVAP) and the Advocacy for Veterans seminar course within the Sturm College of Law. He is also the Executive Director of the RMVAP, a nonprofit dedicated to providing legal assistance to veterans.
The Veterans Advocacy Project offers pro bono legal services to veterans facing homelessness or struggling with the lasting effects of mental health conditions, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Through direct legal representation and systemic advocacy, the VAP assists veterans in appealing less than Honorable discharges before the Department of Defense to secure the benefits and recognition they deserve. The project also represents veterans in benefits appeals at every level of the VA system, including VA regional offices, the Board of Veterans’ Appeals (BVA), and the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (CAVC).
Brad earned his J.D. and an LLM in International Business Transactions from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law, as well as dual master’s degrees in Resource Law Studies and Environmental Law and Policy. His legal expertise spans environmental and veterans' law, with specialized knowledge in renewable energy and oil and gas technologies.
Before joining the faculty at Denver Law, Brad served as a Special Agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, where he worked on complex criminal investigations and counterintelligence matters. He earned a B.A. in Philosophy from American Military University in 2010 while serving on active duty with the United States Air Force.
