The American Bar Association’s Center for Human Rights presented the Eleanor Roosevelt Prize for Global Human Rights Advancement to Professor Ved Nanda (1943-2024) at a reception following their Second Annual Human Rights and Rule of Law Summit held on September 17, 2024, in Washington, DC. Established in 2018 with the blessing of the Roosevelt family, the award is given to “recognize persons and organizations having a positive, enduring, and global impact in advancing the principles set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.”

Professor Nanda trained and nurtured countless human rights advocates over his 50-year teaching career and held many leadership positions in the global international law community, including the World Jurist Association, American Society of International Law, International Law Association, American Law Institute, and the American Bar Association's Human Rights Center and Section of International Law.

In 2006, former students and friends of Professor Nanda endowed The Ved Nanda Center for International and Comparative Law at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. Professor Nanda’s daughter, Anjali Nanda, accepted the award on his behalf.
