Professional Biography
Professor Joseph McKay is an accomplished educator and legal professional. Currently, he holds the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Law and serves as the Director of the Community Economic Development Clinic. Additionally, he is an active member of the Board of Governors of the Society of American Law Teachers (SALT).
Before assuming his current role, Professor McKay worked as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Law and as the Assistant Director of the Business Law Clinic at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. At Loyola, he instructed courses in Administrative Law and Secured Transactions. Furthermore, he taught a range of business and law-related undergraduate courses at both the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and the University of Nevada, Reno.
Previously, Professor McKay worked as a Judicial Law Clerk for Judge William J. Bauer of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit and Judge David W. Dugan of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois. He also worked as a Pro Se Staff Attorney, focusing on cases involving prisoner civil rights and habeas corpus, at the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada.
As a student, Professor McKay externed for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He also interned for former Nevada Justice Abby Silver at the Nevada Court of Appeals and at the Nevada Eighth Judicial District Court, as well as former Senator Harry Reid in the Democratic Leadership Office of the U.S. Senate.
