Professional Biography
Amanda Savage (she/her) is an assistant professor of law and director of the Criminal Defense Clinic. Savage's teaching and scholarship focus on issues within the criminal legal system. She researches in the areas of policing, criminal procedure, and forensic (pseudo)science. As director of the Criminal Defense Clinic, Savage supervises law students in their representation of people charged with crimes in Denver and surrounding areas.
Prior to coming to DU, Savage was an assistant public defender with the Maryland Office of the Public Defender in Baltimore City, where she represented people charged with serious felonies including first degree murder. Before that, Savage was an assistant deputy public defender with the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender in Essex County (Newark), where she represented people charged with all levels of felonies from minor drug possession to murder. Savage has experience handling criminal cases at the trial level at every point from start to finish, and is well versed in challenging and litigating issues of forensic science. Savage has also trained public defenders on trial skills and other practice areas.
Savage received her JD cum laude from Harvard Law School, a BA cum laude from Harvard College, and her MA in teaching from American University School of Education, Teaching, and Health.
