Tax LLM Student Recognized by Colorado Bar Association

Alexis Whitley, JD'24, a current Tax LLM candidate at the Sturm College of Law, was recently awarded an academic scholarship by the Executive Council of the Taxation Section of the Colorado Bar Association (CBA). The Executive Council, which is comprised of Chris Levkulich, Chair; Andrew Rubin, Vice Chair; Judy Vorndran, Treasurer; and Chris Schmidt, Secretary, was impressed with Whitley’s academic and professional achievements and looks forward to the positive impact she will have on the tax field. As part of the award, Whitley is invited to participate in upcoming Tax Section meetings and presentations.
While working toward her JD degree at Denver Law, Whitley earned a Corporate and Commercial Law Certificate, participated in the 32nd Annual Duberstein Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition and assisted individuals through the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic. Along with her academic accomplishments, Whitley contributed articles to The Race to the Bottom corporate law blog and the American Bankruptcy Institute Journal. Whitley acknowledged the support she received from law school faculty members: "these opportunities would not have been possible without the support and guidance of those around me, especially professors Michael D. Sousa and Sabrina Strand. I am grateful to have been able to work alongside such talented and impactful individuals."
As for the CBA scholarship, Whitley says she is honored to receive it, and again reflects on the encouragement she has received from others: "this achievement would not have been possible without the support of the faculty and staff of the Sturm College of Law, the generosity of the CBA Taxation Section, and every other attorney dedicated to helping guide future generations. I look forward to starting my career path in corporate and tax law and continuing the tradition of assisting incoming attorneys with their goals."
