International Law Students Association Announces the Ved P. Nanda Award
Emeritus Professor Ved Nanda Honored by Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition

Introduced in 2025 at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition by the International Law Students Association, the Ved P. Nanda Award is named in honor of Emeritus Professor Ved Nanda (1964-2024), who was a leading scholar, teacher, and advocate in international law and international human rights law. Nanda was a multi-term member of the ILSA Board of Directors and a long-time Jessup coach, regional administrator, and judge. He served as author of the 1986 Jessup Compromis and as a judge in the 1994 World Championship Round.
The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the world’s largest moot court competition. It was started in 1960 at Harvard Law School and has grown to reach approximately 700 teams in 100 countries. The International Rounds of the Competition are held during one week in late March/early April for teams which qualify to represent their jurisdiction. Approximately 160 teams will compete in 2025 for the White & Case Jessup Cup.
Each team is represented by between two and five students, who prepare both written and oral submissions in a dispute between two fictitious countries before the International Court of Justice. The Ved P. Nanda Award will be given to the student with the highest oralist scores in the preliminary rounds, representing the most prestigious individual award.
