Ralph Becker, Esq., FAICP

Ralph Becker, Esq., FAICP is newly elected mayor of Salt Lake City, Utah. He is also with the consulting firm, the Shipley Group in Salt Lake City. He specializes in community planning, environmental assessment, public lands, land use, consensus building, and public involvement. He graduated from and now teaches courses as an adjunct professor at the University of Utah in environmental planning, policy and law, environmental assessment, consensus building/public involvement, and public lands in the College of Architecture and Planning. He was a member of the Salt Lake City Planning Commission, and past president of the Utah Chapter of American Planning Association. Ralph has served in various capacities for APA, including the Policy Committee and the National Awards Jury. Ralph was elected in 1996 to the Utah House of Representatives, where he has served in leadership, including two years as the House Democratic Leader. Ralph serves on the Political Subdivisions and Public Utilities and Technology Committees. Other legislative responsibilities include membership on the Capitol Preservation Board and the Energy Policy Task Force. Ralph served as a Toll Fellow and Flemming Fellow, and sits on the Boards of the Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute, WesTrends, and the Policy Consensus Initiative.
