Required Courses

The curriculum includes thirteen required courses (43 credit hours), representing 48% of the credit requirements for the J.D. degree. These courses, in alphabetical order, are Administrative Law, Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Contracts, Criminal Law, Evidence, Lawyering Process I and II, Legal Profession, Property, and Torts. The Perspective Elective is a requirement that each student enroll in one of the following five courses: Alternative Dispute Resolution, American Legal History, Comparative Law, International Law, or Jurisprudence.

The Perspective Elective requirement, which must be completed after the first year and prior to graduation, may be satisfied by completing International Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), Jurisprudence, Comparative Law, or American Legal History.

Upper-level students are also required to take Administrative Law, Evidence, and Legal Profession. These required courses may be taken any time before graduation. In addition, all students must complete a 50-hour public service requirement and an advanced legal writing requirement before graduation.
