DU Law Students Return from Interning at over 10 Prestigious Firms in Latin America and Spain
October 21, 2009
This past summer, over fifteen Sturm College of Law students were accepted to the Lawyering in Spanish Overseas Externship Program where they traveled to 8 different Spanish-speaking countries and interned at eleven different prestigious firms abroad.
While interning with Beccar Varela in Buenos Aires, students Gracie Chisholm and Conor Filter took part in interesting projects such as the microfinance report written by their supervisor, Beccar Varela partner Dr. Roberto Crouzel. Gracie and Connor helped to both translate the report, “Why Has Argentina Been Unsuccessful in the Development of Mirofinance?” as well as develop a supporting grant application that is to be presented to the International Development Law Organization in November of 2009. Gracie and Conor note that, “This English translation will enable Dr. Crouzel and the microfinance network he helped found, RADIM (Argentine Network of Microfinance Institutions), to highlight the legal reforms necessary to make microfinance a legitimate and viable sector in the eyes of the Argentine government and the international microfinance community.”
