“Teaching Immigration Law in Spanish is both a challenge and a pleasure. The challenge is presenting the course using an academic level vocabulary where none existed before. By doing this, I teach my students to communicate in a culturally-appropriate professional manner without resorting to “Spanglish” or to slang. The pleasure is knowing that I am preparing students to more effectively communicate with, and advocate for, an immigrant community that has been traditionally underserved by the English-speaking immigration bar.”
